Left ventricular end-diastolic pressure-volume relationships in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Changes induced by verapamil.

چکیده
In 16 patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, an acute response of the left ventricular end-diastolic pressure and volume index to intravenously administered verapamil was assessed. Verapamil decreased the left ventricular end-diastolic pressure from 20 +/- 6 to 17 +/- 5 mm Hg(p less than 0.001) and increased the end-diastolic volume index from 82 +/- 22 to 91 +/- 23 ml/sqm (p less than 0.01). In 13 (81 percent) of 16 patients, an improvement of end-diastolic pressure-volume relationships occurred. In hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, intravenous verapamil exerts a beneficial effect on left ventricular filling conditions, producing an augmentation of filling volume at a lower filling pressure.

Effects of verapamil on left ventricular systolic and diastolic function in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: pressure-volume analysis with a nonimaging scintillation probe.
To investigate the effects of verapamil on left ventricular systolic and diastolic function in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, we studied 14 patients at catheterization with a nonimaging scintillation probe before and after serial intravenous infusions of low-, medium-, and high-dose verapamil (total dose 0.17 to 0.72 mg/kg). Percent change in radionuclide stroke counts after verapam...
متن کاملHypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy. Effects of acute and chronic verapamil treatment on left ventricular systolic and diastolic function.
Changes in left ventricular systolic and diastolic function and outflow gradient were evaluated in patients with obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy after intravenous acute treatment with verapamil (15 patients) and after six months of oral chronic treatment (11 patients). All patients had severe symptoms despite beta blockade, and the condition of all but two improved appreciably after chr...
متن کاملDoes verapamil improve left ventricular relaxation in patients with myocardial hypertrophy?
A beneficial effect of verapamil on left ventricular relaxation has been reported in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The effect of 0.1 mg/kg intravenous verapamil on left ventricular relaxation and diastolic mechanics was studied in 10 patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and 13 patients with aortic stenosis. M mode echocardiograms and left ventricular high-fidelity pressure mea...
متن کاملHemodynamic effects of verapamil in children and adolescents with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
The acute hemodynamic effects of verapamil were evaluated in nine children with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Verapamil, 0.1 mg/kg, was administered as an i.v. bolus over 2 minutes, followed by a 20-minute continuous infusion of 0.007 mg/kg/min. Hemodynamic measurements were obtained at rest in nine patients and at maximal supine bicycle exercise in seven before and 15 minutes after verapamil. A...
متن کاملLeft ventricular diastolic pressure-volume relations in man.
Diastolic function of the left ventricle was analysed in patients with different cardiac diseases: acute and chronic volume overload (in aortic and mitral incompetence), pressure overload and inappropriate ventricular hypertrophy (aortic stenosis and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy), congestive cardiomyopathy, and constrictive pericarditis. Most patients were receiving digitalis therapy at the time...
